My Favorite Second Chance, the second book in the Lake Effect Series by Rue, is simply a great read, continuing the stories of the Hutchinson sisters, Gwenn and Rachel, pretty much where the first book in the series, It’s Not My Favorite, left off. Gwenn is enjoying the excitement of her new relationship with the handsome and wealthy artist Daniel Gregory, and Rachel’s relationship with rock star Annie is a happy one. But when Gwenn’s war hero ex returns with thoughts of being with her forever and Annie prepares to leave for a long overseas tour, the uncomplicated happily ever after both women had started to dream of just might not be in the cards for either of them.
I so enjoyed this book. Rue has done an absolutely fantastic job at creating characters that the reader will truly care about and will continue to think about long after the book has ended. If that is not a hallmark of an awesome writer, I’m not sure what is. My Favorite Second Chance would be enjoyed by any reader who loves chick lit, romance, just the right amount of steaminess, or just a great, fun, and heart twisting read. Rue is fast becoming a go-to favorite of mine, and I can count on her books to be engaging, exciting and emotional, sometimes all at the same time. I am so happy to highly recommend this book and this series as a whole, and will be very much looking forward to digging into the next installment as soon as possible.
